Voltage standing wave ratio describes impedance mismatch on an RF transmission line.
Formula
|Γ| = (VSWR − 1)/(VSWR + 1); Return loss = −20 log10(|Γ|)
Worked example
A VSWR of 2:1 corresponds to a return loss of about 9.54 dB.
A perfect match has VSWR 1:1 and theoretically infinite return loss.
